This is a private event for the wonderful docents of the San Francisco Botanical Garden, and is listed for their reference. My talk will focus on Japanese garden design principles that influence California gardens, with peeks into Kyoto private home gardens, monastery landscapes, an an Emperor's estate.
Cutting Back allows readers to feel what its like to walk inside the gardens of Japan over the course of three seasons, working alongside traditional garden craftsmen, learning from them how to balance seriousness with humor, and technique with heart. Cutting Back has recently been translated into Chinese and is available on order from your local bookstore, or where ever books are sold. Please contact the https://www.sfbg.org/volunteer for information on how to volunteer or become a docent!
